Summer Reading

Summer Reading – “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls

(Available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other booksellers)

As the first step in acquiring an appreciation for these concepts, all first-year students are required to complete a freshman summer reader that will give them a shared experience and introduce a world completely different from their own.  The faculty has chosen The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, a memoir of a woman who was raised by brilliant, but deeply dysfunctional parents. This compelling true story will not only give students an understanding of what it is like to grow up with tremendous adversity, but will also instill in our students a deep appreciation for the eternal value of learning in the face of seemingly impossible obstacles. We believe that each student will be inspired by this family’s unforgettable journey.
