New mobile printing service saving paper

Lynn’s latest sustainability innovation is a mobile printing service that’s helping save enormous amounts of paper. The service, called “follow-me printing,” enables students to send their document to a shared print queue and release the print job from any enabled printer with the swipe of their ID. The service is available on printers located in the library, academic centers and the dining commons.

In three weeks of usage, 16,919 pages were sent to the printers but never released, resulting in a substantial reduction of printed waste from documents left uncollected at the printer. Defaulting all printers to duplex, or double-sided printing, additionally has saved the university 30,000 printed pages.

Mobile printing is only the latest in a long line of green initiatives instituted by Lynn. The Princeton Review recently named Lynn as one of the 353 most environmentally responsible “green” colleges in its sixth annual “green guide.”
