Become LYNNvolved: Recycle plastic bottles and cans

By Maria Cardenas

At Lynn, the Sustainability Committee has introduced a way to make recycling easier and more convenient for students and staff.

On the first floor of E.M. Lynn Residence Center, in addition to the recycling bins located on each floor, stands the Coca-Cola Recycling Machine, an interactive kiosk that is part of the national recycling program “Give it Back,” providing greater access to on-the-go recycling.

The world’s current environmental state has made recycling a part of our day-to-day life. But does it really make a difference? Plastic bottles can be turned into many items: from being shredded into flakes used to create fibers for clothes to being melted and molded for new products, including CD and DVD cases and new bottles. Recycle Across America says that “every three months Americans throw enough in the landfills to build our nation’s entire commercial air fleet.”

When you place plastic bottles and cans in the Coca-Cola machine, you are contributing to the recycling program and helping to reuse more of these items. For more information on the topic, contact sustainability@lynn.edu.
